Map Jira Product Discovery into your workflow
To create a smooth product development workflow and keep your team aligned with organizational objectives, it’s important to understand how Goals, Jira Product Discovery, and Jira work together. Goals act as your organization’s key objectives tracker, providing direction and focus. Jira Product Discovery serves as your product backlog, where you capture, prioritize, and share ideas linked to your goals, ensuring every initiative supports your objectives. Once ideas are ready for execution, they move to Jira, your delivery backlog, where you manage, plan, and track delivery work. This integration ensures efficient planning, prioritization, and stakeholder alignment from strategy through to delivery.

Who uses Jira Product Discovery?
Jira Product Discovery is versatile and can be used by product teams (product managers, product operations, and program managers) across industries and company sizes, from start-ups to huge enterprises, including:
- Marketers prioritizing upcoming campaigns
- Data teams planning what dashboards to build
- Program managers tracking multiple projects across different teams
- Procurement teams choosing vendors
Jira Product Discovery helps product managers collaborate with extended teams, including engineering, design, sales, support, and marketing, to collect insights as they shape the product roadmap.
Jira Product Discovery is a fit for any team engaged in ongoing discovery, where they consistently collect feedback and data to inform their roadmap.
Product roles and permissions
Defining your strategy involves multiple teams, but only a select few are responsible for the final roadmap. Jira Product Discovery has two product roles: Creator and Contributor.
Creators are typically product managers, owners, or people engaged in operations who lead the prioritization process. They craft and share the product roadmaps and ultimately define the strategy.
Contributors are extended team members on a space, holding roles in teams such as engineering, marketing, sales, or support. They will play a role in the prioritization process, offering comments, insights, or feedback that shapes the roadmap.
Jira Product Discovery spaces are administered and managed at the team level for more autonomy over processes and practices with a self-contained space. This means that any changes you make within a Jira Product Discovery space won’t affect other spaces. If you are familiar with Jira you will know this space type as a team-managed space.
