Create views in Jira Product Discovery
Jira Product Discovery enables teams to easily compare ideas using flexible views and customizable fields. By visualizing ideas side by side—whether in a list, matrix, or board—teams can quickly assess and organize options to support better decision-making.
👉 For example: Ayra wants to see when updates for the iOS app are scheduled and track their progress over time. She sets up a timeline view to visualize when features will be worked on and their expected completion dates, helping her team and stakeholders stay on track with delivery.
👉 Another example: Raj, a product manager, is preparing for a sprint planning meeting and needs to ensure the team reviews the most current customer feedback. He uses the list view with filters to display only ideas that have received new insights in the past week, keeping the team focused on the latest and most relevant information.
You must have the Creator role in the space to create, manage, or edit views. If you can’t create a view, talk to your space lead.
To create a new view:
- Open up your sidebar.
- Click the + icon next to your space.
- Select the type of view you would like to create.
- Customize the view for your needs.
👇 Here’s how a board view is created.
Choose a prioritization framework
Prioritization frameworks provide structured methods for evaluating and ranking ideas, helping teams focus on the work that delivers the most value. By applying a prioritization framework, like those listed below, teams can make objective, data-driven decisions and align on what to tackle next in Jira Product Discovery.
👇 Click the tabs below to explore commonly used prioritization frameworks.
The RICE prioritization method helps you decide which ideas to work on first by scoring them across four factors: Reach, Impact, Confidence, and Effort. You estimate how many people an idea will affect (Reach), how much it will help (Impact), how sure you are about your estimates (Confidence), and how much work it will take (Effort). By combining these scores, you can quickly compare ideas and focus on those that offer the most value for the least effort.
To create a RICE view:
- Click the + icon on your space's name.
- Select List view.
- Add the following fields as rating fields:
- Reach
- Impact
- Confidence
- Effort
- Customize your fields to be different colors and make sure all ideas in your view have been rated.
- Create a custom formula field, named RICE Score.
- Use the formula {Reach}{Impact}{Confidence}/{Effort}
- (optional) Edit the formatting for the scores to be color-coded for a quicker visual on the next ideas to work on.
